In early June 2015, Marvel unveiled two photos depicting many of its iconic and lesser known characters post-"Secret Wars". The comic also featured a preview of Uncanny Inhumans. Soon after, Marvel revealed a title called the All-New, All-Different Avengers for Free Comic Book Day, a preview of the new Marvel Universe that featured many "legacy heroes", a term used for new characters taking on the role of established heroes. It was announced in February 2015 by Marvel that following the "Secret Wars" storyline, a new universe would be established by combining the 616 Universe and 1610 Ultimate Universe. Marvel NOW! 2.0 and Marvel Legacy are concurrent with it. Taking place after the crossover storyline " Secret Wars", it details the new Marvel Universe, with nearly 60–65 titles relaunched with first issues, with a total of 76 issues. How nice it is to be reminded of how great stories should feel like. MY REVIEW: 5 of 5 stars to Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor ★★★★★ But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself? When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.Īnd in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war. Maybe there’s no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.”Īround the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. Title: Daughter of Smoke & Bone Author: Laini Taylor Series: Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1 Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult Published: September 27th 2011 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers Rating: 5/5 stars ★★★★★ The following books feature good writing in an urban paranormal setting, well-developed characters, and enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. Mostly to save my sanity, I set out to find alternatives, and just to be clear these are urban paranormal books where the leading characters are lesbians. I’m probably not the only Ravy fan out there who finds this completely frustrating, but what bothers me more is a tendency in the Hollows series to present a drug-dealing, underworld boss (who nearly had Rachel killed), and a demon who’s enslaved people for centuries as having redeeming qualities, while a high-born living vampire who moves halfway across the country and does the unthinkable to save the woman she’s loved since high school is written off as crazy-jealous unhinged. But they’re only friends, even if Ivy makes Rachel’s heart pound, and Rachel’s admitted that she loves Ivy more than a sister or a friend. Nine books later (and let me say that I was warned off the 8 th and 9 th so I haven’t read them), they’ve had a couple of disastrous blood-sharing episodes, two kisses, the soul equivalent of a Vulcan mind-meld, and several aching heart to hearts. Ivy Alisha Tamwood, six feet of powerful, dangerous and beautiful living vampire perennially struggling with her instincts, and inexplicably (by this point) in love with one Rachel Mariana Morgan since Dead Witch Walking. (Or, alternatives to the Hollows series that won’t make you feel like headdesking) |
